The OIL Was What Made Her aka Gloria

Whenever I think of my mom for the most part I tend to think of food. If our hips could tell, she loved food just as much as I and comically so. How she'd laugh until the walls and pantries vibrated when I fried my first pan of chicken around the tender age of fourteen to sixteen years old perhaps. Every piece turned out so golden brown and perfectly crisp and it was all so beautiful and smelled so good. But, when everyone bit into their serving, it was like a bloody massacre in their mouths. Until this day, I do not fry food.

While I am removing the potatoes from my plates today along with all the heavy starches, the butter rolls, the sweets and all the cakes and pies, I am never too far removed from what held us up and together as a family and it was often found in the kitchen over her stove and her olive green double dutch oven. What joy stood there in that linoleum tiled space when the front door to the foyer never stayed locked or closed, inviting any neighbors, friends or family, whether auntie, uncle, cousin or play cousin to come inside for a bowl of turnip greens with real turnips or a plate of liver and rice, smothered in onions and gravy.

I have tried and failed to no avail to make this onion gravy I remember hating so vehemently as a child. I can capture the taste, but the consistency's off, quite thicker than hers which I now love and crave. As I've gotten older my taste buds have surely changed. Icky stuff like boiled okra is not the "witches nose" sitting on my plate at the kiddie table anymore, but it is one of the most beautiful blossoming plants I have ever seen. With just a little salt and pepper, it is also one of the tastiest and was one of my mom's staples, too.

Although Christmas is by far my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving is when my sister and I try to raise the dead just to remember how much sage Momma would use in her cornbread dressing. Last Thanksgiving, I was reminded how she would pull out that cast iron skillet after it sat through the whole year unused, all beat up, bowed over in the back of the cabinet, under all the shiny new non-stick pans totally busted, disgusted and rusted. Why she would want to cook in that skillet was unbeknownst to me until I'd learn a wonder, something that still amazes me in my kitchen today.

Although that old skillet would seldom be used, sitting under the cabinet to just seemingly collect rust, Momma would just break out the oil and rub it all over then, lo and behold her dressing and all of Thanksgiving, it was already done.

That Thanksgiving when my sister burnt the whole pot of collard greens because I somehow fell asleep, after becomimg frustrated with myself for putting too much oil in the cornbread, my then eight year old nephew ended up joining in our "Little Debbie Downer" parade. After smelling burnt collards (his favorite by the way), he marched into the kitchen like the food police just to stop and offer up his two little cents, "This is the worst Thanksgiving ever!"

Although asleep, it didn't take me long to open one eye and retort on the LORD's High and Holy Turkey Day, "Don't you dare little boy, within the eight little bitty years that you have lived plus all of your life ever dare because although you didn't get to know your Granny JJ. . .

THEE OIL was what made her cornbread the best anyone that ever knew her has ever had and ever will have!"

So, my sister went ahead and put the cornbread in the oven. Then, lo and behold - Momma's Cornbread Dressing. . .

BREAD OF HEAVEN SENT DOWN FROM GLORY!

In His Hand,
Jocelyn

Prayer: LORD, help us to remember You in these fires of life. Like You were with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, be Thou even closer to us ¹. As the Fourth Man in the fire, even with us in the fourth watch of the storm tossed night, help us withstand the flames and the floods ². We as Your children become impatient at times. But, like the uncooked chicken I fried for momma as a young girl, You teach us that beyond the crispy and great smelling exterior, You are working deep down on the inside. Help us to be still and wait patiently as the oil goes to work.

In Your Name JESUS we pray,
Our Balm in Gilead and Fragrant Amen

Word: "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh (James 5: 7-8)."

THE STARS WILL COLLAPSE aka COURTESY OF HEAVEN

in pain, in agony
the whole world groaned
and earth's cry was so very great

thick black clouds, all dust, no rain
stretched on like the stars
no spark nor hope for sparkle
what blinding and painful shame

yet bent and bowed in toil and sweat
came silent cries
inmost whispers through the night
from rips and tears to gut wrenching tears that covered damp face's only twilight

with furrowed brow, mouth clenched
teeth piercing even tighter fist
at heart pounding wildly
wide open cut tearing at
more of what sorrow rent

but bowed back slams down
heavy chest heaves up and
trodden head throws itself back
a different pleading with
writhing rhythmic louder groan

suddenly a faint cow bell chimes
to a more heavenly moan
where lungs inhaled this
pungent flesh and dank air's song

kings and angels were peeking into her womb when heaven came down, earth bowed and all the stars collapsed

BE STILL: IN THIS FIRE AND BEYOND

When I was a little girl my mom told me the story of how my godsister Yulanda became trapped in a fire in their home. Even more frightful, she was trapped upstairs while her mom was apart from her downstairs. Yulanda was just a little girl herself. So, I could imagine how afraid she was on that dreadful day.

My mom told me how Yulanda cried and cried as I'm sure any child would waking up to a house engulfed in flames.  The fire would rage on as Yulanda stood there rooted in so much fear.  She stood above the stairs apart from her mom who was desperately reaching for her downstairs. I'm sure Yulanda's mom was just as hysterical as she was being separated by such a horrific situation.

But, my mom said Yulanda's mom spoke to her daughter these words.

"Listen to my voice. . ."

A tear drops my eye here because I can't remember why my mom told me the story then. There are no words I could ever write to describe how it felt when she shared it with me. But, I will always remember how it felt when she shared it.

Although I'm not asleep under a rock, I don't watch the news and I barely watch TV.  I prefer LOLs over all my tears. I laugh now because I don't watch TV anymore, but I have just bought a TV stand that I'm about to paint! Oy vey Jocelyn!  So, I guess that's why I tuned in for what seems like the 2nd time now in this time of COVID. Oh my!  After only a few minutes, I had to turn off the TV and pray for my sanity and the sanity of the world.

I understand how people are so scared and worried now and I know first-hand anxiety's "middle name, birthday, address and social security number," I just can't believe that people are protesting Doctors!  I can't believe murder hornets exist and that they are ripping the heads off of honey bees! But moreso, I can't believe that it is 2020 and still these "honey bees," Ahmaud Aubrey and Breonna Taylor, whose blood is more precious than honey, have lost their lives so senselessly (please insert all our other "honey bees" and say all their names here, even now and forever #GeorgeFloyd's).

I'll admit I had become desensitized to much of the news, numbed out, just sad, but even more sad for the world which is waxing colder. So yeah, I can't watch the news like that anymore.  At first I thought, oh no I'll be out of touch, ill informed and most definitely a whimp, etc., etc. But, I just CAN'T digest it all anymore.

So this is why I am glad to remember how Yulanda made it out of the fire that dreadful day not "digesting" or listening to her own screams and fears nor the awful flames and fires raging all around her nor focusing on the flames separating her from her mother.  But, listening to this still, small word,

"Listen to my voice. . ."

LISTEN TO HIM!

God is so amazing and I tearfully realize this more and more as I write then pause to answer the phone. My sister and young nephews are on their way to the park by my house for bike rides and a picnic. Even in this time of COVID-19, He is still doing great things, has not failed to blow my mind and still exceeds all my expectancy!

So yeah, Yulanda heeded the voice of her mother. She made it out of the fire safely that day and her namesake Jocelyn YOLANDA which means Joyful Lighthearted VIOLET FLOWER will make it out of these fires of life, too!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for how You've kept us and for how You keep us everyday. Thank You for our family and loved ones, especially, my sister Kimberly Diane and my nephews, Michael and Justin. Thank You for my best friend Tiffany and our little angel Jenessa! Keep Your Hand upon us and let nothing by any means harm us.

The BLOOD all over our lives and those reading here. In Your Name JESUS we pray, Amen

Ink His with pen in hand,

THICK BLACK LIKE NIGHT: SPLIT THE SKY

LORD, You split the void and gave to us light
Split open nostrils and men breathed life
You split the mud and gave man sight
You split the sea and nations crossed over
Split the rock and water overflowed us
You split a virgin's womb and all
the world blessed one man's wife
Split on your back, thirty nine lashes,
healed all of life, then went down
into a tomb, and up out of a grave
rose the Light

And by this I know that if the world is ending
and dark covers thick black like night. . .

You will split the sky

Shine,
Jocelyn

SONATA aka RHYTHM

Who tells every stormy billow exactly where to wave its hand
Then takes every threatening breaker and shows it just where to land
And with each rise and swell of mighty most fearsome sway
Who lassos every angry tide
Stills it to gentlest ripple
And tells it when to subside. . .

TIDES

If you ever feel like giving up or think that "it" is not worth it, consider this. Some things are like waves in the ocean. We have breakers, crashing waves that come to topple our pretty little sandcastles, yet some waves are as calm and soothing as when walking along the most serene beach. The most amazing thing is, waves all come and go. Yes, the joy is that all of life's crashing breakers eventually go away, yet all the serene, calming and soothing waves come back again like a heartbeat. So, don't ever wonder if "it" was not a good idea. "It" could very well be God's heartbeat. "Let patience have her perfect work. . . (James 1:4-8)." I do believe that God breathes inspiration. If you felt inspired to start it then let God be the Author and Finisher of what faith you had in it from the beginning. Learn to ride the waves doll, even enjoy the breakers because while they come wild and fierce, they have to dissipate just as mightily, too (ref. Matthew 7:25). Realize the power you possess, take courage and go surfing on those turbulent breakers that threaten to drown you. But most of all, relax and release all the turbulence as the tides calm, and they do. Then stick your toes in and enjoy what granules of sand are watered because of the ocean's rhythm. Inhale, God is good all the time, now exhale, and all the time God is good. Even more, His Heartbeat is Sovereign and is always in control. Listen to the waves doll and receive this great, rolling and swelling peace which surpasses all understanding.  What seems a whale of a wave,  in God's eyes, is just this, peace and even a walk of faith with Him. Collect your newfound pearls, take heart and dive into the glorious sunrise that now bursts along the horizon.

Be brave ride the wave,
Jocelyn

ROCKS & CLAY: GOD MY MUSE AND WONDER

John 12:24

Take a look at the rocks and the clay.  One is moldable, pliable, able to bend, not break. When you poke it, the prick may be painful at first, but then all its soft clay pours out and offers to you all its tenderness. You'd handle it with kid gloves because it is most tender.  If I throw it at you, it would land and not bruise. When you squeeze it tight, it gushes, yet all your stress and pain is relieved.  What's inside it expands and does not break.  The other is stony and hard.  Try to handle it. You'd find that it is stiff and painful. When you hold it, there is friction. Grind it. Your ears would complain.  You can't mold it.  It would mold you to pieces! Try to break inside it.  Poked and torn, the tear would not only hurt it, but tear you apart and all its heavy stones would crumble to dust. Crash to the ground!  Total collapse!  Only the rain could bring it back to life, only the water could smooth out its rough edges, only the fire could melt it as wax.  Stand rough next to pliable, which one would always poke at the other?  If I threw it to you, could you catch it or would your hands come away scarred and bloody?  Now place the pliable next to the tough, its soft form would be rolled over like parchment left lying flat on the ground.  Could you raise it up again?  Most assuredly, it would spring back into tip top shape again. Why?  Because it is moldable, pliable, able to bend, not break. . .

Love is the Greatest,
Jocelyn

Who turned down stars without number
A measure we could never name
Then declined polished silver lined moon's glow
reflecting every one of the sun's flames
Who told the sun to take a backseat and

Grasping forever with His own hand
each star bought here, won forever and through Eternity He took

Transcend Reality: Selah aka In The Midst

She was dead
Period.
At least that's what they said
And what a grim reality
But, somewhere in the midst of it all
There was this
This vast
This great
This ellipses
This continuation of time and space
This space which encompasses
Yet surpasses finality
And this was faith
And it was faith in the Son of God
Who loved her so
It was her trust beyond what she could see
It was her only hope travailing
Travelling beyond all she could imagine
It was the far reaching expectancy that goes beyond what anyone could ask or think
and it was stretching far beyond her finite ability. . .

It transcended her reality,
Selah

IT'S ALREADY ON THE MENU: NOT JUST ANY HAPPY MEAL aka PART TWO: AND IT'S ALREADY IN THE BAG: WITH FRIES SPILLING OVER

Part 1: Michael aka Mikey aka Mike Cannon Boom
aka Bookie Bear aka TT's Baby aka TT's Baby 1pointO
aka TT's Baby No Matter the Fortnite

My then eight year old nephew Mikey loved 'him some' happy meals. Nine times out of ten, rather ten times out of ten, if you asked him what he wanted to eat, he would say, "chicken nuggets and french fries with a sprite & sweet and sour sauce please" (aka a McDonald's Happy Meal for a boy). It always made him very happy when he'd get one, yet, comically so, would send me and his mom to the poor house. But, it was his favorite meal. Today, it's, "hey TT, pick me up some wings from Mr. Z's." But, I, even being just his aunt, his best TT, would never have to ask what he wanted when we'd pull thru the line. I ALREADY KNEW! Even if he forgot to add that he'd like sweet & sour sauce, I already knew to add it and no ketchup thank you. If they ran out of sweet and sour sauce then I already knew that he would be ok with barbeque sauce, but only as a back up plan.

Oh little children of God our FATHER, God already knows. He ALREADY KNOWS everything about you. Just as He knows the number of hairs on your head, He surely knows what you need and all the desires of your heart. However many times you can count asking the Lord for something in particular is just as many times He has heard you. Now we know that HE knows the number of hairs on your head. So we know He's a good counter and can surely tally the number of times you've asked down to a tenth of a tenth of a tenth. He even knows the number of times you've asked better than you do, so most certainly He is able and can ANSWER you down to a tenth of a tenth and beyond.

I know you have asked so much that it just feels like it isn't coming or that God has forgotten about you, but I am so happy to say this, delay does not mean denial. No, perhaps Mikey didn't get to have a happy meal all the time or whenever he wanted. But, he would always get to have a blessed meal everyday. Yet, when his desire came, when we'd finally pull up and to those golden arches. . . oh my, was he one happy camper and he even got to have a toy with his order!

God is just this amazing and much more! Trust that God knows what's best for you. Patiently wait on Him to give you not only what you need, but even the "toy." Trust Him to give you the bonus prize with your order. Trust Him to give you what you didn't even know to ask and could never imagine. Trust HIM to GIVE you the desires of your heart because here is the thing I'm learning. . . He can SUPERSIZE that order!!! He can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think. . . (Ephesians 3:20).

Looking back to when he wasn't this teenager locked up in the "prison of Fortnite" all day as if he's working a nine to five with overtime AND a second job, when I was ready to love on Mikey, he wouldn't just get a happy meal. He'd get the apple pie, movie time, Dave and Buster's capped off with Chuck E. Cheese's, the toy aisle any and everywhere, etc., etc., etc. and we'd celebrate like crazy because TT has worked hard to bless him like that and she loves him soooooooooooo much! Now if I could do all that, oh my, can't God do even more? But, if Mikey didn't wait for me to save up for our play dates then he may very well have gotten bologna and crackers with two sticks and a rock to play with in the backyard. But, while waiting patiently, like a good boy, doing his homework, cleaning his room, staying hopeful, trying his best and most of all keeping the faith (reference Hebrews 11:1). . . he set himself up to receive the BEST PRIZE. Again, I am just an auntie, BUTTTTT GOD. . . GOD IS GOD!!!  Receive Him!

"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15)."

Prayer:

Father, help us to trust that everything we need is in Your Word. It's on Your Menu, it's in Your Will to us. . . our prosperity in all things, our health and most of all Your everlasting love. In Your Name JESUS we pray, Amen.

Place your order in God's hands and let Him SUPERSIZE it!!!

Part 2: Justin aka Justin Odell aka JJ aka Grandaddy aka Grandaddy Long Legs
aka TT's Baby aka TT's Baby Can I Come Over Your House aka TT's Baby TooPointO
aka TT's Little Buddy

"I waited patiently on the LORD and He turned to me and He heard my cry for help. (Psalm 40:1)."

In His Hand,
Jocelyn

Cedar Plank Salmon: Well Done aka More Than An Olympian

There's something that amazes me about cedar plank salmon. But, it's not the fat & succulent piece of flesh sizzling on the grill, it's the cedar plank itself. Interestingly enough, we gather this seasoning and that spice, chop this and/ or that. Then we let it sit, for the more patient, "all night long," allowing the fish to soak in all the flavor. As soon as the sun comes up, we fire up that grill and WOW! The fish is done, we eat it, it's delicious and only the bones are left (stay tuned, that's another lap in the pool all together aka Ezekiel 37: 1-14). But, the fish has served its purpose, the flame grilled it to perfection & it became very WELL DONE. Our taste buds can testify. But, take a closer look at the table. Not only are the bones left, but the PLANK (the MAIN ingredient/flavor & sermon in itself) UPON which the fish was COOKED withstood the flame. Why? Because it was first SUBMERGED IN THE WATER! If you should find yourself steeped in the fiery flames of life, just make like a fish on a cedar plank. Stay afloat!!!!!!! Never give up aka WELL DONE! JESUS IS OUR LIFE RAFT! (Ref. ALL of ACTS 27 & RUN. . .). Singing. . . "I once was sinking far from the peaceful shore. Deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more. BUT, the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry and from the waters lifted me, now safe am I. It was LOVE that lifted me!!!"

Stay in the race, overcome the hurdles and keep passing the baton. We are following Victory and His name is JESUS!

This My Lil' Slingshot & That My Lil' Stone: The Heavenly Root Canal. . . Now Ain't That The Tooth!

Sometimes the truth is hard to receive when it comes against the lie/ lies that we have firmly believed. But, thank God for His Heavenly 'Root Canals' 😁. Look at how WebMD defines the process of a "root canal"  below. Now tell me won't God both FIX IT & STRAIGHTEN it out!!!!!!! NOW = WON = ONE = ☝FOCUS!!!

"A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed (Web MD)."

UmmK, so break it down O' Lord. "For the wages of sin is death. . ." (Romans 6:23). You have eaten too much sugar, too many sweets and your tooth has just about rotted out aka died.  You can't even chew any food or place water on it (hot/ cold) and that "tooth" definitely doesn't want to be touched.  It's painful and the Lord knows that you've eaten & been fed too much garbage (i.e. circumstances planted by others/ yourself: Pappa was a. . . , Mamma used to. . ., cousin did this to me. . ., your own addictions to sex, drugs or what has been your rock & roll, etc. & you get the point).  In other words you have believed the lie, having ultimately ingested that forbidden fruit, that which all we like Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden have partaken, falling way far short of not doing so (some passing the cavity zone all the way down to the pulp, lol but ikr).

The Bible makes it very clear, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)." Basically, all the "icky" stuff you've ingested (aka all your sordid 'way back then' or 'just yesterday,' even 'when you got off the phone a minute ago' stuff, but prayerfully 'hopefully not tomorrow,' icky stuff) has caused your tooth/ teeth to become badly decayed/ infected. But, thanks be to God that "the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)." Thank You God that after discovering such painful rottenness, there is a BUT GOD PROCESS! Thank You Holy Ghost for the PROCESS!!!

Just like WebMD/ even more, BETTER than WebMD, we have a Good GOOD Doctor, our Heavenly Father, Who is more than able to REPAIR THE BREACH (aka "Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings" Isaiah 58:12)." He has a treatment for your "ruined teeth" aka ruined life which speaks of better things than that of Abel whom Cain in his jealousy murdered (Genesis 4:1-8)."

The Lord our God in HIS excellent Wisdom (Whose, let's say, wisdom 'tooth,' unlike man's, will never crumble, 😂 see John 19:36) has something to remove the pain and anguish which came about when Eve ate all of "that sugary treat" aka the lie of the enemy (aka snake @ 6 o'clock) and even shared it w/ her husband against God's will (Genesis 3). Like a loving mother who tells you to eat your vegetables and not all that candy, God is our Father and likewise, He admonishes us to not do certain things. So, listen to Him & heed what He has to say. Send me Lord, I'll go.

So now, our teeth, like Adam & Eve in their coats of skin & kicked out of the Garden of Paradise, are rotted 😞. BUT GOD, BUT GOD, BUT GOD(!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Who soooooo loves us has provided a remedy 😇.  "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16)."  It's like He gave us His one and only tooth 🙌!!!   I will say AMEN to myself b/c I know the Lord is more than TOO GOOD!!! YEAH GOD!!! YEEEEEEEEAH GOD!!! (Take your praise break now b/c it gets so much better =)!!!!!!!

This 'Remedy,' like the root canal described by WebMD will remove the affected nerve and infected pulp.  I'm no dentist, but I can almost hear the Lord saying. . . GIVE IT TO HIM. . . UmmHmm, cast that 'affected nerve & infected pulp' aka all your cares and anxieties upon Him b/c He cares for you. You can't brush it away & you can't rub it away. You have to let Him get all down & up in it. He can get down to the ROOT of the matter. That which is bothering you and causing all that pain and anguish, is rotting those pristine 'pearls' the Lord has given you and it has to be removed. Now, once all the decay and rottenness have been removed, God is going to CLEAN & SEAL it!!!

Yeah God. . . signed, sealed and delivered by the Good Doctor Who is more than able to write your Heavenly prescription (Jesus is a 'Rxemedy!!!') Come on in the room God!!!

If you are out there and you need a "root canal" and you hear what the Lord is saying right now, then harden not your heart and turn and be healed in the name of JESUS CHRIST!!! He can set you free from all the pain and anguish. He even makes house calls & His line is never busy! Just call Him! Call Him! Call Him!!! Even if you find yourself all the way lost & all the way in the back alley, 'rotted and decaying,' just look to the Head of the corner! This GOOD DOCTOR, Who name is JESUS, is in the building and He is more than able to FIX IT!!! He can fix it!!! RIGHT NOW!!! FIX IT JESUS!!! Place your all on the altar of His sacrifice! Kneel down and accept JESUS into your heart even NOW & wherever you are, whoever you may be! Get down the nearest & dearest aisle near you, get to that altar!

Here is the jist of the thing: WebMD also notes that the process SAVES the tooth! It's like you have a whole NEW tooth!!!  UmmHmm. . . "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Cornthians 5:17)."  Wow!!! Now that's the tooth AND the TRUTH!!! UmmHmm . . . "See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant (Jeremiah 1:10)." Build & plant us O' Lord!!!!!!!

I see why these pastors be sweating and japping out and falling out and breathing all hard when they preach!!! It's just so good God! You are so GOOD GOD! I'm about to pass out just typing It!!! This My Lil' Slingshot & That My Lil' Stone: Never Underestimate the Power of $2

Ephesians 6:15
UmmK, so I tried to buy him "Skwiggey" or something because the cover looked more blockbuster. But, my then 7 year old nephew insisted on purchasing a caricature version of the "Wizard of Oz" which I could draw with my eyes closed (a $2 cartoon rendition of the classic, you know). It's about 10 minutes long. . .  lolwhat?!?!? So, I'm watching a $2 cartoon of "The Wizard of Oz" w/ Mikey and I get this word & a very great revelation.

Never underestimate what is ALREADY hidden within you!

UmmK, so you know the story, but do you KNOW the STORY?!?!?! It's been a while since I've seen it and I just about fell asleep during the $2 and 10 minute gist of it, so here goes. . .   Dorothy's life is swept away by a treacherous storm and she loses Ma & Pa (aka Auntie Em & fam) & can't find her way home. Then she meets up with the Scare Crow who thinks he's empty headed & in need of a brain. Somehow, the crows had him fooled. Next up, it's the Tin Man who is always crying aka consumed in sorrow to the point of rusting and becoming hardened because he also feels empty and is looking for a heart. The Lion who is supposed to be the king of the jungle and in charge, front and center, the most outgoing, always on top and never fearful is quite the pussy cat. We see him often cowering in fear and running from being the conqueror everyone makes him out to be. He is even longing for his something and that's courage.

After they make it to the Wizard, they are sent on another journey to do battle against the wicked witch. It is during this battle, in the heat of her utter "lostness" that we see Dorothy, who was so very lost the whole time, rising to the occasion and giving extraordinary guidance and direction to the others aka her new friends. She was already wearing a pair of crimson shoes that spelled out her d.e.s.t.i.n.y.c.o.m.com Oh, when I think of home. We also find that the Tin Man had a very special treasure the whole time. His gift of oil never ran empty and it kept him going in the rain. All he'd have to do was pop it out and squeak, squeak and sweetest sigh. . . he was moving again. The Scare Crow only needed to open his eyes and see that he was NOT dumb. A small pair of glasses was all the enlightenment he needed to spot out the crows who wrote him off as such. Finally, the fearful Lion would discover the king already living inside of him by just lifting his head and discovering the golden crown and mantle that already lay upon his head and shoulders. Plus, the robed Wizard of the bejeweled Oz, who was a sham was indeed a very wise sham to help them realize all this.

Wow, this 10 minute curtain call deserves an infinite bow.  But, all this wisdom found in a $2 children's cartoon is only a "parable" or  sliver of the picture show of our reality. If I could play it all on the big picture screen with only a beginning and ending, troubles would cease and no one would ever worry. Because in the beginning we are safe as a babe at home and in the end we are still safe as a babe at home. It's the middle part that gets to us, when we crawl away from our sheltering places. In this world, yes, we do have troubles. Like little children, there are nightmares and storms that come and rip through our happy homes and we lose our way at times. Even some of the oldest, most mature, wisest and smartest long to curl up in Mommy's lap and be rocked gently & peacefully back to sleep in the heat of the night. At times, we all long for Ma & Pa to come and save the day. But, what do we do as grown adults when those arms have become weak & fade away and what was our safety net or our security blanket is ripped to shreds? Oh my, I have had so many moments that would cause us all to cry and become sorrowful like the squeaky Tin Man. I'm sure that it's safe to say that even many of those who are so well known for being fearless often face their fair share of being afraid. Sometimes, we can even esteem ourselves so small & worthless like the Scare Crow that we forget our own name and that we were made to scare the crows away & even guard the harvest.

Dorothy was surely lost, but she found her way home again all because of her feet which were shodded with the preparation of peace, the good news. Throughout their tumultuous journey, she was able to speak peace to all the storms her friends faced and encourage them even though she was so far away from home. The Good Witch knew that with three simple clicks Dorothy would make it home safely, yet she had to fulfill her mission and succeed on her assignment (to simply follow The Yellow Brick Road aka make it to the finish line). The Lion whose roar was so small in the beginning found the loudest praise and this was all poured out upon him in his mother's womb after it was put to test and trial. He was the king of the jungle and that one word was all he needed to know to defeat his foes, fear, fear and more fear. The Tin Man's oil of joy was an excellent prescription for heaviness and it was always right there in his heart. The Scare Crow outsmarted what tried to smart him with only a pair of glasses. It was mind over matter, you are NOT just a bunch a straw!  A little knowledge goes a long way. I'm sure he began to study to show himself approved.

Wow, was it one Wizard who saved the day? No, the movie was only worth $2. But, the glory of enjoying it on the big picture screen in real life with my nephew AND with my all too REAL God is worth more than gold that perishes. I will never again underestimate the power of $2. UmmHmm. . . click, click, click. Home!!! Where there's LOVE overflowing.

Stay in the race, overcome the hurdles, and keep passing the baton.

Sharing the victory,
Jocelyn =)
